Look what we found just outside our shop yesterday!! The doggies treed it (we removed the dogs, and the critter toddled off, unharmed). Anybody know what it is? A groundhog? Woodchuck? We *do* think we have a woodchuck that lives on the edge of our property, or maybe just across the road....this fella was roughly cat-sized.
Any wildlife experts want to let us know what this fellow is?

It is a woodchuck and a groundhog. (different names for the same marmot)

Our dogs have gone after a couple of these. They find them irresistible, but the woodchuck tends to fight back and with rodent teeth. Our husky had to have stitches on a major injury to her leg.

Thanks Hannah, I thought you might know!!

Our big dogs found a full-grown woodchuck some years ago...you're right, it wasn't pretty....

One was burrowing under our shed a few years ago. My woman had a single broccoli plant she was trying to grow, and it marched up, snapped it like a twig and ate it all up.
In finding out what was in our yard, we learned that they're also called "whistle pigs"!!!
