In the mad computer kerfuffle, I FORGOT ABOUT FREEBIE FRIDAY! I'm so sorry, everyone!!
Last week's winner was Gloria Y! Gloria, drop us an email at shop at prairielandherbs dot com, and let us know your mailing address, and what type of body butter you'd like!
This week's Friday Freebie post is going to be a bit long, so bear with me. I'm going to shamefully promote our Shampoo Bars.
Last week, I was in the Mall of America. Now, folks, Donna and I are not shoppers. We'd rather tear our own hair out, and/or roll naked in the snow, rather than spend an afternoon in a mall or shopping center. Despite that, I ended up spending rather a lot of time in the Mall of America, and happened to visit a few, well....I won't say competing stores, because, that's not really accurate. Let's just say I visited a few other stores that sell bodycare products. And MAN, was it an eye-opening experience!
It's pretty common for folks to email us and say "I used to use Lush/L'OCCITANE/Burt's Bees/Etc. but now I am in love with your stuff because it's truly handmade/a family owned-company/rocks my world/smells great/costs half the price and is twice as good/etc.". And that always makes us smile to read that, because we happen to agree. :) However, because I don't shop too much, I hadn't REALLY realized how incredibly true that statement is. I was appalled to see how much the other stores were charging, for what is clearly (to me) a less-quality item.
Forget the $45 (!!!!) body scrubs they were hawking.
Forget the CLEARLY not-even-remotely handmade super-stinky synthetic melt and pour soaps.
I zeroed in on the shampoo bars. Because, frankly folks, there are LOADS of bad, bad, BAD shampoo bars in the world. I know this. Which makes us all the more proud of our fantastic ones!!!
Here's a picture of 1) one of our shampoo bars (left), and 2 shampoo bars from other stores - Lush and Basin.
Our shampoo bars are a minimum of 4 oz, and cost $5.50 ($5.00 each if you buy 3 or more).
Their shampoo bars each weighed in at UNDER 2 oz each (1.9 oz), and cost $7.00 for the creamy colored one , and $8.35 for the green one. Making them nearly THREE TIMES THE COST of ours.
I will refrain from further review (because I tried to write more and just couldn't be kind about it) other than saying - just as you can see from the photos, these are clearly not handmade, but smashed together from extruded soap bits. Which I think is weird. There's so much fantatsic handmade soap in the world - why settle for synthetic, overpriced stuff?? Go handmade. It rocks.
Now that you've survived through my shampoo bar rant, let's announce this week's Friday Freebie!
We're offering TWO SHAMPOO BARS OF YOUR CHOICE as this week's Freebie. We well more shampoo bars than just about anything in the store, and regularly ship them all over the world. They are FANSTASTIC. If you'd like to try them, now is your chance to do so for free!!
These are amazing for traveling, camping, and can be used as an all-over head to toe bar, if you so desire. They can safely be used on color treated and permed hair. Most folks who use them report: Shinier, healthier hair with more body, AND, most people have no need for extra conditioner after they shampoo. (yes, you read that correctly). We have and unscented version for people with sensitive skin, and a coconut-oil free version for folks who are allergic to coconut oil. We've got all bases covered!
If you'd like to win these shampoo bars - you must leave a comment on today's blog post.
Rules:
1) One entry per person.
2) You must have a registered ID to post - if your post shows up under "anonymous", we don't know who you are, and therefore you can't win.
3) You have until the next Thursday at midnight, CST, to enter your comment.
4) Winner will be announced the following Friday - you must check back to see if it's you!
5) International folks are welcome. We ship Prairieland Herbs items all over the world, so we'll ship our "Friday freebie" anywhere too!
6) Each eligible post will be assigned a number, and we'll use a free online random number generator to determine the winner.
Hi, I was cleaning out some files and found your catalog! So sorry, and look forward to checking out your website!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your shampoo bars, I will never use commercial shampoo again:)
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try one of your shampoo bars!
ReplyDeleteYay! I haven't used your shampoo bars yet. I love to try new products. I won't even tell you how much I spent at Lush last year... and hated everything I bought. I've loved all of the products I have purchased from you so far!
ReplyDeleteI am really interested in trying the shampoo bars. They look really good but I haven't got around to ordering any yet (my local store that carries your products doesn't carry the shampoo bars.) Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give these a try. I am really disappointed with the "Pure & Natural" stuff I bought at $6 a bottle (with a coupon, even) that really, upon reading the label, doesn't seem that pure - or that natural! Ew.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me! Have a wonderful weekend.
No need to put me in the drawing, but I have to say, between your bars and Lush's? NO CONTEST. Lush's stuff is pricey, harsh, and the bars don't last nearly as long, even taking into account the size.
ReplyDelete:loves on her Prairieland shampoo bars:
I am also an enthusiastic advocate of the shampoo bars--lustrous, shiny hair devoid of grease!
ReplyDeleteI've never used a shampoo bar but would definitely try it!

I received a sample of Aloe Fresh Shampoo Bar in my last order and was skeptical to try it. Thank goodness I put my "big girl pants" on and tried it--love it! love it! love it! It's on my (long) list of items to purchase today at Sample Sunday--see you later :)
ReplyDeleteMary
I have so much trouble picking out what scent I want when I come in to buy more....
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, yours look so pure and lovely by comparison! I have wanted to order some for awhile now to try so thanks for the opportunity to win some!!
ReplyDeleteCount me in! PLH Shampoo Bars rock. :-)
ReplyDeleteyay! these look great! thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteRebecca
Count me in! Shampoo bars sound great! I'm desperately trying to get away form chemicals. This sounds like just the thing! Thanks
ReplyDeletethey sound great! yes--is uneal what the stores can get away with charging isnt it.. and they arent handmade either.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your blog & website. I would love to try your shampoo bars!!
ReplyDeleteYay! I've really been wanting to try a new shampoo bar. I've used the ones from LUSH but stopped after I realized that they weren't really natural at all :(
ReplyDeleteHmm... after reading your post, I'm intrigued about your shampoo bars..
ReplyDeleteIt is true there are many bad shampoo bars out there. Couple of years back, I bought one from ebay for $2.50, and it was just horrid (figures.., don't know what I was expecting for $2.50). I have to admit, I am a fan of Lush's "Godiva" ($9.25 for 1.9oz) and "The Blond" ($14.05 for 3.5oz) solid shampoos. But because they are so pricey, I don't use them often.
I truly love the convenience of shampoo bars, and I'm looking for (cheaper) Lush alternatives.. so even if I don't win this freebie, I plan to try yours out. :D
Well, I have never used anyone else's shampoo bars, I went straight from commercial liquid junk to baking soda and then added in your bars...but I guess I'm real super glad I started with the best!
ReplyDeleteAnd, my husband refuses to shampoo with anything else at this point.
I haven't tried your 'poo bars yet, but they look fabulous! WAY better than those 'other' brands. :)
ReplyDeleteHandmade > factory made hands down! I'd love to try these :D
ReplyDeleteI have never tried any of your products before but man h man do they look wonderful. Sign me up for the giveaway! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJes
I love your shampoo bars - my hair has never looked better!
ReplyDeleteOoooh I'd love to be entered for this giveaway!

I love everything I've gotten from you. Can't wait to try the shampoo bars. My favorite thing is still the Vanilla Lotion Bar. I rub it on the back of my hands just so I can smell it all day.
ReplyDeleteI'd love a chance to try your shampoo bars!
ReplyDeleteLadies, I know you know how much I love all your "stuff" but here is just how much: I recommended your scrubs and soaps to my ex-husband in an actual civil conversation and he then asked me to email him your web address. I don't know if he ordered but I do know I had to treat myself to some of the white chocolate whipped shea (which I save for those awful days when I need a pick me up!)! Oh, and I just started a new blog and put you guys in both favorite blogs and favorite sites!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try out your shampoo bars, enter me in the contest :)
