So apparently...Beaker (the yellow fellow - the one we rescued from a busy town highway) is NOT a duck. let me preface this by saying we know NOTHING of birds...especially farm birds. But one of our great customers (thanks Hanna!) clued us in today to the fact that Beaker is NOT a duck. So we think maybe he's a goose...or possibly even a swan?? Any bird people out there that can help us out..let us know! But, let me tell you - these guys are a hoot, and they're growing like crazy. More blogging about them over on Maggie's personal blog! (In this picture, btw, they're like 2x the size they were last week, and they're hanging out in our herb shop. Yep, they think that's where they should be. *sigh*)

Hi There! I stumbled on your site from the Soap Dish Forum... I believe he would be a Candian Goose. I saw some near a lake in our area and they look just like the adorable lil' fellow. :-)

  2. Check out these Canadian gosling photos: http://www.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_pages/0350-0606-2101-5927.html

Make sure you look under Simlar photos. Looks like a Canadian gosling to me only it's feet aren't so black. Maybe they'll get darker w/age? Anyway, they are both just adorable!

  3. Found you through the Cat Blogosphere...

They do look like goslings to me as well. They're a little more yellow than I'm used to seeing in Chicago (and maybe that's just the lighting from when you took the picture), but otherwise they sure seem to match.

  4. I'd guess Canada Goose, too (birders frown on calling them "Canadian"). His poor Mom must be frantic; they are usually quite diligent about guarding them!
Here are Mallard ducklings (my own photo). And here are Canada goslings (a friend's photo).

  6. We fink they is Canadian gooslings. We has swans and Canadian geese near our house. Remember da story of da ugly duckling who turned out to be a swan? Well da swan babies (signets) are not furry cute (usually grey or brown) before they become beeyootifuy swans. We're sure there are differences through the country.

  7. Definitely a Canada goose - my daughter and I were out feeding some Canada geese yesterday at a local lake, and the goslings were Beaker's identical twins.

You're so lucky to live on a farm where you can have geese! I love what you're doing and have bookmarked your web site. We're in the process of designing our site and setting up a shopping cart, too, although beset by one delay after another. I'm curious to know what shopping cart you decided to use -- you can email me through our blog at ArtsyCatsy.blogspot.com.
